If You’re Unhappy Don’t Change, Reflect Instead

I WROTE AN ARTICLE RECENTLY TITLED “Design Your Life” and this thought fits with that one. How many people force change in their lives simply because they’re unhappy or depressed and then, as a result, end up unhappier or even more depressed?

I’m sure we all do it to some extent and most can identify with this. Ever changed jobs because you were unhappy at a workplace only to become even worse off in the next job? What about relationships. Rebound is a common mistake many people make; for some, repeatedly.

The worst thing we can do when we’re at a low ebb is to take a decision or make a change we can’t back out from. For the amount of times major change works out in these circumstances there must be thousands that don’t—the odds would have to be overwhelming. This reveals the riskiness of change from a bad position.

“All change is not growth, as all movement is not forward.”

~Ellen Glasgow.

It would be far better to simply take some time out to honestly reflect and even seek trusted counsel.

Getting ourselves to an even keel position is often the key to being ‘in a good place’ in order to make significant life decisions for the good and for a better future.

We’re always blessed to remember the following pearl of wisdom which takes the sting out of the pressure of “needing” to change.

“What you have become is the price you paid to get what you used to want.”

~Mignon McLaughlin.

Change ordinarily never delivers quite what we expect from a positive viewpoint and from a negative viewpoint it can deliver actually way too much!

Notwithstanding all the above, sometimes we do just need to be bold. But, these responses are more the exception than the rule.
